Kamila Celebrates Her Last Chemo!

We have some great news to share! On August 12th, Kamila and her family celebrated her last chemo treatment with a fun party, a new bike and a surprise drive-by from the local fire and police department. She is now fully in remission, but will be monitored monthly by her doctors. Kamila had not been able to attend school during her treatment and hospitalizations, so she is looking forward to finally going back, albeit virtually.

Eleven year-old Kamila was diagnosed with Leukemia in April 2018, which was just the beginning of many terrifying ups and downs in her health. She suffered severe reactions to her treatment that caused seizures, endured respiratory infections that required hospitalization, and went through several rounds of grueling chemo.

Kamila’s dad Julio (the primary caretaker for her and two older siblings) faced financial distress due to his daughter’s cancer ordeal, struggling even to put food on the table every day. Despite all she went through, Kamila is always smiling and living life to the fullest. She has a great sense of humor and loves to create beautiful art work which shows a talent beyond her years.
